One of the attackers of a woman who was said to have been gang raped and tied onto a railway line has been arrested.

Police said the man only identified by his nickname, Otis was arrested on Thursday night and is set to appear in court Friday morning.

Urban OCPD, Lucas Ogara said the suspect was arrested in Changamwe.

“Officer from Makupa arrested him at around 11pm. We may prefer attempted murder charges against him, it will depend on what evidence our officers gathered,” said Mr Ogara on phone.

Two weeks ago, the woman, was discharged from Aga Khan Hospital after the county government administration settled her hospital bills.

GANG RAPED

The county also resettled her in a new home in Kisauni.

The victim was said to have been attacked and gang raped by two men as she was walking home from a funeral meeting in Kibarani area on a Saturday night.

Later, the men slashed her leg with a panga before tying the mother of two onto railway tracks leaving her for dead. She was run over by a cargo train, crushing her legs.

“Hadn’t I screamed, I could have been killed but luckily the locomotive driver heard my cries. I have been amputated and I am afraid my future is bleak,” she said during a past interview at Aga Khan Hospital.

The incident was reported to have happened on February 3.
