Poleni, is all Kidero can say to dead, marooned Nairobians

Nairobi governor Evans Kidero has condoled with families of the nine people who lost their lives after a wall collapsed on their houses in Mukuru Fuata Nyayo slums on Monday night due heavy rains.

In a statement from Doha, Qatar, where he’s on official business, Dr Kidero also sent his sympathies to city residents who lost properties as well as commuters who spent hours in traffic and the Makini School pupils who were in a flooded road stranded as a result of a heavy downpour.

WORSE THAN EL NINO

“It is worthy to note that the rainfalls we are currently experiencing is higher by 10% vis a vis rainfall received last year around this time. This is worse than the El Nino rains experienced in Nairobi in 1997,” he said.

“I would like to assure Nairobians that the county government in collaboration with KURA and KENHA are doing their best to unclog all blocked drainage systems in the City to ensure smooth and efficient flow of water.”

He said his administration is liaising with the Kenya Meteorological Department to get the actual rainfall forecast for the coming days in order to advise Nairobians accordingly.

TRAFFIC FLOW

The county government is also working with the traffic police commandant to ensure flow of traffic is manageable during this period.

“Again my sincere apologies to all Nairobians who have lost their loved ones, lost properties and spent long hours in traffic as a result of the rains. We continue to work towards the Nairobi we all want,” he said.
