Jazz by Classically Christine

Jazz musician Christine Kamau graced the stage during Showcase Wednesday for the second time since her last performance at Alliance Francaise Gardens back in 2011.

She is trumpeter but also plays the piano. Her jazz music has over the years been influenced by the likes of the late Hugh Masekela, Maroon Commandos and Miles Davis, among others.

“My music is a fusion with Jazz being the cornerstone with a combination of benga, Hip hop, Latin and Chakachaka beats to it,” she says.

Her performance included nine tracks in total with some coming from her 8-track instrumental afro-jazz album titled “This is for you” released in 2012.

She describes the crowd reaction to her performance as “awesome and amazing for a very jazzy audience”.

Christine is a keen believer in the power of music as she has been studying music since the age of 11 and over the years has graced various festivals across Africa.
