Electronic sounds or as it is popularly known as EDM music is most well known in European Countries thus the fusion of such sounds with the rich traditional African sounds is new but accomplished by the Beating Heart Label.

The label founders Ollie Wood and Chris Pedley best describe Kenyan music as “Traditional, mesmerizing, hypnotic and heart felt” they have explored various music styles from way back as from 40’s and 50’s.

“We describe our style as marrying the tradition with contemporary music to bring you out fusion sound” says Chris. The label was launched in March 2016 on the shores of Lake Malawi since then they have released over 60 tracks fusing Afro flavours with house, techno, soulful beats and bass music.

They were the headline act during the Showcase Wednesday at Alliance Francaise on March 6; they brought their sound to the stage backed by Idd Aziz on the traditional drums and Labdi on the vocals. The taste of Kenyan music has led them to appreciate the likes G-Master Masese, Blinky Bill and Sauti Sol, but their love for the traditional sound is most evident in their tracks.
