Kenyans catch Afcon fever ahead of kick off – PHOTOS

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off on Friday night and Kenyans are eagerly awaiting for the tournament to start.

The 32nd edition of the Afcon is organized by the Confederation of African Football and will see the host Egypt take on Zimbabwe.

Kenya’s Harambee Stars, who last took part in the tournament in 2004, will take on Algeria on Sunday.

On Friday, to put the country in the Afcon fever, Total, who came to an agreement with CAF in 2016 to be the title sponsor for eight years flagged off a caravan in Nairobi in celebration of Harambee Stars who qualified for the tournament after a 15-year hiatus.

STRENGTHEN TIES

Speaking at the event, Total Kenya Managing Director Mr Olagoke Aluko said Total Kenya was happy to be with Kenyans during the start of the football matches in Egypt.

“Football is synonymous with enthusiasm, sharing and team performance – concepts that resonate across different cultures. With this event we will strengthen ties with our stakeholders and customers through various interactive engagements like special offers in our Bonjour shops, Total Wash, Total Quartz Auto Service at our service stations countrywide, activations in our various stations with the branded caravans heading around the country from today, among others,” he said.

During the tournament, former Harambee Stars captain Musa Otieno and seasoned Kenyan sports journalist, James Wokabi will join SuperSport’s first-class cast of analysts and in-field reporters to assess the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations that kicks off.

Another Kenyan journalist Lynne Wachira will also feature in the BBC commentary box alongside other female colleagues in a first for the British broadcaster.
