Passenger wants rogue tout who shortchanged him arrested


Police are yet to arrest a matatu tout who shortchanged a passenger and dared him to report to the authorities.

The tout of the matatu belonging to the NNK Sacco, which plies the City Centre-Uthiru route, is reported to have refused to refund Mr Awuor Ponge his change after the passenger paid him Sh1,000 for which he should have been getting Sh950 as change.

The matatu tout went as far as telling him to take pictures and report him to any police station or the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) if he so wished.

Mr Ponge reported the matter at Nairobi Central Police Station under OB No 68/21/11/16, but the police are yet to act. Mr Ponge also shared his experience on social media.

After his plea to the public, the coordinator of the NNK SACCO got refunded Mr Ponge his change.

“I did get a call from the coordinator of the NNK SACCO, who paid me my change. But still the inconvenience was unwarranted. They should go the extra mile and punish the thuggish tout appropriately,” he wrote.

His ordeal comes weeks after a matatu driver was arrested on suspicion of drugging and robbing female passengers in his vehicle.

His arrest came after a woman by the name Karimi Mwari narrated how ordeal in the hands of the driver and his accomplices.
