Pain of long distance travellers caught in Sonko’s ban

Long distance travellers were on Monday also caught in the drama surrounding Governor Mike Sonko’s ban prohibiting Public Services Vehicles from the city centre.

Vehicles arriving in the city from other counties were barred from accessing their head offices located in the city centre.

Passengers arriving from Mombasa using Coast Bus were forced to alight at South C on Mombasa Road and told to find their way to the city centre. Those with heavy luggage incurred the cost of paying for taxis.

“If you are travelling to Mombasa with an early morning bus, you will have to board the bus at South C where we also have an office but not at our town office,” said an attendant at Coast Bus head office on Accra Road.

Mash bus company resorted to shuttling its passengers to where their buses were waiting outside city centre.

Upcountry shuttle that ferry passengers to Nakuru, Meru, Nyeri and Kisumu were also kicked out of the CBD. Passengers travelling to the Mount Kenya region had to walk to Ngara to board vehicles.
