Ouma sacked as Harambee Starlets coach

Harambee Starlets coach David Ouma has been relieved off his duties under unclear circumstances.

Although this announcement has yet to be made public, Nairobi News can reveal that Ouma, who enjoyed a successful three year stint at the helm of the national women team, has already been replaced by Mike Shimenga, formerly of SportPesa Premier League side Kariobangi Sharks.

Thus Shimenga will take charge of the Starlets in the highly billed friendly against America’s Women Division One side FC Lynch Burg on June 15 at the Machakos County Stadium.

Ouma’s departure is somewhat surprising, considering his achievements over the last year or so.

The Dutch trained coach, who has formerly coached Sofapaka and Posta Rangers in the Kenyan Premier League, helped the Starlets to qualify for the Africa Women Championship for the first time in history.

The Kenyan girls however suffered three defeats, to Ghana, Mali and  Nigeria, but still gave a good account of themselves ta the tournament that was held in Cameroon late last year.

Ouma also led the team to a second place finish at the Cecafa Women Championship in Jinja last August.
