Oluoch winning battle of gloves with Jerim

Boniface Oluoch seems to be winning a dicey battle against Gor Mahia’s veteran goalkeeper and captain Jeremy Onyango to become the Kenyan Premier League champions’ first choice custodian this season.

Oluoch only joined Gor Mahia last December following a frustrated spell on the sidelines at his former club Tusker occasioned by endless injuries.

But the Kenya international seems to have impressed the coach Frank Nuttal in pre-season enough to be handed starting roles in the opening two competitive games of the season, the DSTV Super Cup win over Sofapaka in midweek and in Saturday’s 1-0 triumph over Madagascar club CNaPS.

This at the expense of the experienced Onyango who is in his eighth season at K’Ogalo.

“It is a welcome problem to have quality players in a team, this will come handy during the course of the season,” Nuttal told Nairobi News when asked about whom he prefers between the two ‘keepers.

Oluoch’s performance has won him immediate praise from fans on social media, including Harambee Stars’ first choice custodian Arnold Origi, who plies his trade in Norway.
