Olunga rewarded by Simba fans for downing rivals Yanga

Supporters of Tanzanian club Simba SC over the weekend rewarded Kenya international Micheal Olunga for doing a “splendid job” during Gor Mahia’s opening match of the Cecafa Kagame Cup against Yanga SC.

The Kenyan Premier League champions won the match against their Tanzanian counterparts 2-1, a result that was to a larger extent enabled by the promising displays and spectacular goal from Olunga.

This contribution didn’t go unnoticed by the thousands of Simba SC fans who thronged the venue to cheer on Gor Mahia to victory against their arch rivals.

According to reports in the Tanzanian press, the Simba fans were excited by Olunga’s all round performance during the game that they opted to hand him the club’s replica jersey alongside Tanzania Sh 150,000 (about Ksh 8,000) as token after the game.

“I am very grateful for the appreciation from the section of Simba fans, they cheered on through the game and contributed to our win,” Olunga was quoted.

The forward even opened the door for a possible move to the Msimbazi Street based club in the future.

“But I am still contracted to Gor Mahia until the end of next season. Any club wishing to secure my services should talk to Gor,” he added.

Azam FC and Yanga are the other teams reportedly impressed by the player’s talents.
