Olunga kicks off league season in style
Micheal Olunga has commenced the 2021/2022 Qatari league season from where he left last term.
The Harambee Stars forward scored twice as Al Duhail staged a dramatic comeback to win 4-1 at Khor SC.
Khor SC, against all odds, took the lead after four minutes courtesy of Rafael Vaz.
But then, Olunga and Duhail turned the game in their favour, with the Kenyan levelling matters 34 minutes later. Ismaeel Mohammad made it 2-1 in the 50th minute before Olunga notched his second from the penalty spot in the 68th minute.
Second-half substitute Khalid Mohammed completed the emphatic win in the 89th minute to silence the home team.
Duhail handed a debut to former Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld, who started in defence alongside Sultan Al Brake and Hisham Al-Rawi while Olunga was given the honours to lead the attack in the match at the Al-Khor SC Stadium.
Olunga’s goals come a week after he scored for Kenya against Rwanda in the 2022 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
Olunga, who recently turned out for Kashiwa Reysol and Spain’s Girona, will be seeking to better his record of 19 goals for Duhail last season.
