NTSA deregisters city matatu sacco for lacking vehicles

By SYLVANIA AMBANI September 18th, 2018 1 min read

The National Transport and Safety Authority NTSA has revoked the operator license of a matatu sacco  operating in the city.

The Megarider Management Company was deregistered for not having at least 30 operational Public Service Vehicles (PSV)

It was licensed to operate on the Railways, Langata, Ongata Rongai, Kiserian route, as well as the Kenyatta National Hospital, Ambassador Route.

Also deregistered is Mathome Watergate Company that operates on the Nairobi, Muranga, Othaya, Nyeri, Nyahururu route.

“Following the violation of provisions of section 5(1) of the National Transport and Safety Authority Act (operation of PSV) regulations 2014, the following two transport operators have been deregistered from operating with effect from 13th September 2018,”

“The authority hereby invokes powers granted by section 34 of the NTSA Act and deregisters operators licenses for Megarider Management Company and Mathome Watergate Company,” the authority said.

Netizens gave their varied opinions on the decision.

“They will change saccos tonight and be back on the road tomorrow. Ban the sacco and the vehicle (s) in particular,” said Matthias Mbithi.

“I agree with you NTSA should include the details that were operating in the deregistered Sacco’s, otherwise it will be business as usual,” wrote Stafford Maragia.

“They will be switching Sacco and they will be on the road tomorrow and with the same madness probably after two weeks when Kenyans would have forgotten the incident,” commented Sam Mogere.

“Ban regcom-kawere sacco, what are you waiting for?” asked Ngugi Kimani.

“Ntsa understands this…ni biashara ya paka na panya,” said Stafford Maragia.
