Jubilee officials snub anti-corruption day celebrations
The Anti-Corruption Day was marked on Wednesday with low key celebration as the Jubilee administration continues to battle claims of corruption within its ranks.
Deputy President William Ruto was scheduled to be the chief guest at the celebrations in Laikipia.
During event, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) chief executive Halakhe Waqo said the agency will seek powers to seize assets of those who are corrupt.
Mr Waqo also said that the questioning of treasury officials over alleged failure to account for Eurobond proceeds will continue until the end of the week.
The deputy President William had on Tuesday joined Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on the campaign trail.
Mr Ruto was pictured sitting side by side with President Museveni during a campaign stop-over at Kapchorwa in Tingey county.
According to Ugandan newspaper Daily Monitor, Mr Ruto has in the recent past held meetings with Ugandan legislators in Eldoret town.
“I am in Eldoret now. Mr Ruto met some of those who won in the just concluded primaries last week. He contacted us who lost and all area MPs and we have a meeting there,” Phyllis Chemutai, the Kapchorwa District MP, is quoted in the media report.
In 2010, Mr Ruto was reported to have attended the launch of the ruling NRM party’s campaign manifesto in Kampala having been invited by a friend.
