No, our baby food is not contaminated, Nestlé Kenya

Parents can now rest easy after Nestlé Kenya issued a statement to clarify that none of their products had been recalled due to suspected contamination.

This was after a message circulated online notifying parents that banana baby food had been recalled.

The message that had been doing rounds for days alleged that banana baby food bar code 761303308973 contained glass and had been recalled from the market.

The message prompted Kenyan parents flock the company’s social media pages to seek reassurance.

A Facebook user Irene Soti posted on Nestle Kenya’s page, “How true is this (the message)? It’s going round, if our kids are in danger please make a public statement on TV, radio & newspaper, you cannot depend on a post to go round and reach everyone.”

The company on Wednesday posted a clarification stating, “Dear our Facebook fans, Nestlé Kenya would like to confirm that there has been NO recall for Baby Food as alleged by a viral erroneous message circulating on social media platforms. All of our products are safe for consumption and we place paramount importance in assuring their safety and quality. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact our consumer service line on: +254 703043000 or consumers@ke.nestle.com for assistance. We will be glad to talk to you. Thank you.”

In October 2011, cereals manufacturer Proctor & Allan East Africa recalled about 28 tonnes of Unimix, a high protein food mostly supplied to relief organisations, schools and health centres, following the discovery of the deadly aflatoxin in some of it sent to drought-ravaged areas in the country.
