Fun, pomp, colour as NMG celebrates 60 years of quality journalism – PHOTOS

The suits were off as Nation Media Group staff donned cowboy hats, denim and boots and got down to party last Saturday.

The staff Fun Day, held at Stima Club in Nairobi, was one of the activities by the company to celebrate 60 years since its inception in 1959.

The company, which started with only Taifa Leo, its Kiswahili newspaper, in its stable, has grown to become the largest media company in East and Central Africa.

It now runs several newspapers, television and radio stations, as well as digital media platforms in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda. The theme of the celebrations is True and Timeless, in reference the great journalism the company’s publications and other platforms serve East Africa and the world.

BALANCED JOURNALISM

The Chief Executive Officer, Mr Stephen Gitagama, rallied staff to remain true to the company’s values by delivering timely, authentic, independent, fair and balanced journalism.

“We remain trusted, true and independent yesterday, today and tomorrow. That is what we stand for and I would really like all of us at any time, on any day, and at whatever place we are to remember that we remain true and timeless,” said Mr Gitagama.

The Nation Media Group was established in 1959 by The Aga Khan to offer a platform where indigenous African voices could be heard and authentic nationalist stories told from a Kenyan perspective.
