Randy Nigerian governor loses Sh1billion loot to mistress

A Nigerian governor who is under probe for the misappropriation of $10 million (Sh1 billion), has reportedly lost the loot to a mistress.

Nigerian tabloid, the Nation, reported that the governor had contracted his mistress to help launder the money, only for the latter to refuse to remit it to the bank accounts provided.

The money in question has already been traced to a bank in the US.

“The governor seems to have been duped by his mistress who stays in Texas in the United States,” the Nation reported.

“The governor is worried after discovering that his girlfriend has defrauded him of $10 million.”

SECURITY AGENCIES

The tabloid revealed on Saturday that the governor resorted to using his US-based mistress to stash the funds abroad in order to avoid monitoring by security agencies.

The cash was allegedly either wired or hauled in tranches in order to beat the nation’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU).

However, security agencies were able to intercept the deal between the governor and his mistress.

The governor is from an oil-producing state.

The Nigerian government last year disbursed $800 million to some 25 states within nine months as bailout to enable them pay workers’ salaries.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) accuses 16 states of diverting the money.
