Ngong Road to be temporarily closed from Monday

Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura) has issued a notice on the temporary closure of the busy Ngong Road road from Monday January 30, 2017.

The road will be closed to facilitate the ongoing works of dualling the busy road and the authority has advised motorists to use alternative routes.

Kura said the disruption will be between Nakumatt Prestige and City Mortuary roundabout.

“Motorists are advised to use alternative routes unless it is absolutely necessary,” the authority said.

The authority said that there will be slow movement of vehicles, urging the public to cooperate with the workers at the site and that people who reside near the road will have limited access.

DUAL CARRIAGEWAY

The 2.6 km stretch between City Mortuary and Prestige Plaza was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2016 to be upgraded to a dual carriage way.

On Friday the authority said the second phase of the ongoing expansion of Ngong Road into a dual carriageway will start in July to cover the stretch between Yaya Centre and Dagoretti corner.

According to the Kura the three-kilometre stretch will be financed by the Japanese government, which is also funding the initial phase between the Kenya National Library and Prestige Plaza.

The upgrade is expected to ease traffic on the often clogged stretch that leads to the city centre. Kura did not give any time line of how long the road will be closed.
