Youths, police clash over matatu tout’s fatal shooting

Youths and matatu operators in Dandora on Friday morning engaged police in running battles as they demonstrated after a tout was shot dead by the police in the area.

The police were forced to lobby tear gas canisters at the youths who blocked the roads as tension ran high.

“Masaai hakuwa mwizi alikuwa Makanga. Stop extrajudicial killing,” a placard read by one youth read.

Meanwhile, a robbery suspect who was shot dead last week at Dandora dumpsite  on Thursday laid to rest at their home in Ruiru.

Norman Karuoya, 21, who the police identified as a notorious gangster, was killed with two of his colleagues and found in possession of firearms.

SHOT DEAD

In shocking revelations by his family, Mr Karuoya got married three years after he cleared Primary School even before he attained 18 years.

“He met the love of his life Hellen Wanjiku in the year 2015. They were blessed with a baby boy Riley Njuguna in the year 2017 and they lived happily until his demise,” a booklet eulogizing him read.

In more details which contradict police accounts, the family said that Mr Karuoya worked at Dandora dumpsite.

However, police records show that Mr Karuoya was shot dead during a shootout between police and gang of robbers.
