Women gang in court for stealing laptops

Three women suspected to be members of a gang that has been stealing laptops in restaurants in the city were arraigned in court on Wednesday.

Ms Ann Wanjiru, Jane Karimi and Mary Wangeci were charged with stealing a laptop, a hard disc and a bag containing assorted magazines and a passport all valued at Sh49, 000.

According to the prosecution, the items belonged to Mr Timothy Ngige Kamiti.

The women who appeared before Nairobi senior principal magistrate Lucy Mbugua denied the charge.

They were each released on a Sh100, 000 bond with a surety of similar amount and the case was fixed for hearing on January 31.

The accused hid their faces with shawls from the glaring press cameras and the members of the public prompting the magistrate to direct them to face the court.

Police officers had a hard time trying to have the women remove the covering on their faces and have them face the court.

The charges were later read to the women who at all times avoided eye contact with members of the public by having their heads bowed down.

The offence is alleged to have been committed on January 6 this year at around 4.30pm at Peach Restaurant along Moi Avenue in Nairobi
