Woman sues pharmacy board over wrong drug

February 11th, 2014 1 min read

A county employee has sued the Pharmacy and Poisons Board Registrar over what she terms wrong prescription given to her at a local clinic.

Petronilla Lichina is seeking orders compelling the Board to release the results of the analysis of a drug she said caused her pain and blisters.

The woman told High Court Judge George Odunga she had attended Clinix Healthcare in Nairobi West in April, 2012, where she was given a drug, Insuget 70/30.

After using it, she said she developed painful blisters on her stomach around where she injected it.

“I had a painful ordeal of physical pain, mental anguish and anxiety with the blisters,” said Mrs Lichina.

She said she was eager to know the cause of the blisters and on February 4, 2013, she forwarded a sample of the drug to the Pharmacy and Poisons Board for analysis.

Despite having been told the result would be ready in two months, she has not received it, almost a year later.

“Despite several reminders and requests, the Board is yet to give me the results. I have no other means of obtaining the clinical analysis other than by an order of the court,” she said.

Before April 2012, she explained that she had been visiting Kenyatta National Hospital and used a drug called Insuline Mixtard 30.

She said she attended Clinix Healthcare for the first time in April 2012, where she was given the contested drug.
