Why this Airtel’s Facebook post has gone viral

By MWENDE KASUJJA December 14th, 2017 1 min read

A Facebook conversation between Airtel Kenya and one of its customers has gone viral on social media for the hard tackle handed to the telco’s admin

The company had in a Facebook post asked its subscribers to disclose the tourist destination they would love to visit.

A user commented that she would love a ticket to Russia.

Reason? To go get a nuclear bomb and attack Airtel’s headquarters. Her hate is because of the early morning SMSs she keeps receiving from the company.

In response, the Airtel admin kept his cool and asked the customer to share the affected number and a screenshot of the messages.

A screenshot of the conversation has been circulated widely with users making fun of the response.

Airtel was on Wednesday forced to clear the air on media reports that it is st to exit the Kenyan market.

“We would like to categorically deny these reports which are completely incorrect, unfounded and devoid of any facts. Airtel has consistently stated that it is open to consolidation opportunities, either through acquisitions or mergers, to create sustainable businesses in Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania. It was never stated that Airtel was looking at exiting these markets. As stated in the past, our focus continues to be either the No. 1 or No. 2 operator in each country where we operate, through market consolidation,” the company wrote in a statement.
