Why police officers stormed Khalwale’s home – PHOTOS
Police have stormed the home of former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale to search for alleged detailed plans to disrupt presidential elections due on Thursday.
The officers led by Kakamega Central Division boss Bernstein Shari went to the vocal politician’s home in Malinya, Ikolomani, armed with a search warrant to check what they claimed information on plans to disrupt the polls.
Mr Shari said they had intelligence reports that Mr Khalwale, who unsuccessfully contested for Governor in the August election, has mobilised youth to interfere with voting in polling stations on Thursday.
Police say they suspect the former Senator had collected old tyres at his home to be used by youths to disrupt the elections.
But Mr Khalwale’s lawyers Evans Getanda and Innocent Ondiek put up a fight.
Eventually the two lawyers accompanied the Kakamega DCIO to the law courts for confirmation of the warrant’s validity.
If the court authenticates it, the home will be searched.
