Activist Boniface Mwangi was on Friday banned from attending President Uhuru Kenyatta’s function in Gilgil.

President Kenyatta had presided over the National Youth Service pass out parade in Gilgil.

Speaking to Nairobi News, Mr Mwangi said that he was taking photos of litter at the entrance of the camp when officers arrested him.

He was accompanied by his wife and kids.

“They asked me for my press card which I handed to them. They made calls, confiscated my phone and deleted the photos,” he said.

Mr Mwangi, who unsuccessfully vied for the Starehe constituency seat during the last elections, said that the officer told him “he would have caused them an embarrassment at the function.”

On his Twitter handle, Mr Mwangi shared a clip of the mess at the entrance of the camp.

“Travelled to Gilgil to attend a relative’s @NYS_Ke pass out parade. I took pics of the chaos and dirt all over. I was arrested. Produced my press card (I renew my membership every year.) They made some calls, deleted my pics and said l have been banned from attending the event,” he wrote on his official twitter account.
