What KOT think of release of Ambira boys filmed insulting CSs
The release of the 16 Ambira High School boys who were accused of hurling insult at cabinet secretaries Amina Mohamed and Fred Matiang’i has been met with cheer by Kenyans on Twitter (KOT).
Tweeps have been campaigning for the boys’ freedom ever since they were arrested.
Ukwala Resident Magistrate Gladys Adhiambo released the boys on Monday and ordered them to cooperate with police who are still investigating the matter.
Justice Gladys Adhiambo made the decision after the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) failed to prefer charges against the boys.
KOT applauded the decision by the judge.
Martin Kiogora said; “The state ought to pay the young boys damages for wrongful detention, psychological torture and humiliation they subjected these kids to.”
Runi Krystal wrote; “Very good. Those were boys who need to be disciplined not locked up.”
Justice Mwariri Muigai stated; “Finally, common sense has come back to the judicial system for now. You cannot put someone in jail because of insulting you. If it was incitement or slander, that would have been another story.”
Chuck Delly commented; “And the government just humiliated itself. Nkt.”
Drawde Anjarak said; “They deserve compensation since their constitutional rights were violated also malicious arrest.”
