Here’s what you need to do if you’re applying for a smart driving licence

All motorists applying for smart driving licences have been advised motorists to first book appointment through Transport Information Management System (TIMS).

In a notice to all prospective applicants, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), said that from Thursday, all smart driving licence applicants should book an appointment for issuance before going to their offices.

TIMS is a self-service portal on the NTSA website.

The new electronic driving licenses will see motorists paying Sh3,000 for the three-year licenses, up from the current Sh1,500 and is a move aimed at instilling order on Kenyan roads.

The new licenses will be fitted with an electronic chip to capture a driver’s data and contain the driver’s Kenya Revenue Authority PIN, ID Number and blood group.

The chip enabled licenses which was rolled out in March 2018, will allow for the creation of a driver’s profile and provide valuable information on their eligibility.
