Varsity student dies in freak car accident at national park
The family of renowned lawyers Ken Nyaundi and Patricia Nyaundi has been thrown into mourning after their daughter was killed in a tragic car accident while sight-seeing at the Nairobi National Park on Monday afternoon.
Keziah Nyaundi, 19, a second year student at the University of Nairobi’s medical school, died under unclear circumstances after the driver of a Toyota Surf vehicle she was in lost control and landed in a ditch.
Mr Nyaundi is a former commissioner at the defunct Interim Independent Electoral Commission who now sits on the board of the Communications Authority of Kenya among other organizations.
His wife Patricia is currently the chief executive officer of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights.
She previously worked in the same position the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission.
SIGHTSEEING
Keziah’s uncle, Albert Nyaundi, told Nairobi News Tuesday that the deceased had gone sightseeing in the sprawling park in the company of five friends when the accident happened.
She is the only who lost her life.
Survivors, who are recuperating at a Nairobi hospital, said they are still unaware of what could have distracted the driver.
They said five of them were watching the animals on the open roof of the vehicle when the driver suddenly lost control and the vehicle hurtled into a ditch. They were all thrown out.
“They called their parents, who alerted the Kenya Wildlife Service, who sent out rangers for the rescue mission,” said Albert.
The students were later rescued and rushed to hospital where Keziah was pronounced dead.
“We are utterly devastated by the news. She was young, bright, full of life and promising,” said Albert.
