UoN seeking professors for top jobs

The University of Nairobi is looking to hire two deputy vice-chancellors and two college principals. Deputy vice-chancellor in charge of students’ affairs Prof Isaac Mbeche and deputy vice-chancellor for Research, Production and Extension Prof Lucy Irungu are set to retire early next year after serving a five-year term. They were appointed in January 2011.
Interested candidates, who must be professors at the university and holders of earned doctorates, have until January 7 to submit their applications to the Vice-chancellor.
“The candidate should have a thorough knowledge in structural, legislative, and regulatory framework for administering university education with a five-year hands-on experience at a senior level in a university,” said an advert in Wednesday’s newspapers.
As per the university Act 2012, a deputy vice-chancellor and principal of a college are supposed to hold the position for a period of five years with the possibility of renewal for a further term subject to positive appraisal by the university council.
Prof Mbeche is currently serving as the deputy vice-chancellor for administration and finance following the suspension Prof Bernard Njoroge, who has been engaged in a row with Vice Chancellor Peter Mbithi over the institution’s management.
