Under age sex workers flood Kisii town during school holiday

Kisii town is teeming with an influx of young sex workers who are hoping to reap from the town’s 24-hour economy.

Local administrators believe the young girls are from the neighboring Kisumu, Homa Bay, Siaya, Migori and Nyamira counties.

They are also not ruling out the possibility that some of them are schoolgirl who have closed schools for the April holidays.

Some of the sex workers have been sighted boldly beckoning to potential clients as early as before 5pm.

Kisii County Commissioner Godfrey Kigochi has blamed parents for abandoning their responsibility of monitoring the movements of their children, especially during school holidays.

“Honestly parents have failed in their responsibilities. It will be very difficult for us to monitor each household to determine which girl has moved out during the night” he said.

Mr Fred Nunda, the county boda boda chairman, has cautioned the motorcycle operators on the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases due to the increased number of sex workers in the town.

Mr Nunda said riders who work late night are the most vulnerable.

The sex workers’ hot spots include Gusii plaza street, Kagwanchi, Capital round about, Kisii Referral Hospital roundabout and along the main stage.

The young girls charge between Sh50 and Sh1,000 per person depending on location.
