Uhuru’s daughter wardrobe slip spoils family photo with Pope
President Uhuru Kenyatta’s daughter Ngina has come under attack on social media for an insipid wardrobe choice that stole the thunder from a family photo with Pope Francis.
While other members of the First Family opted for official outfits befitting the occasion, Ngina wore a casual beige tight-fitting trouser and a long sleeved black blouse.
When State House posted the family photo on Facebook, comparisons were quickly drawn between Ngina’s haggard look and that of US President Barack Obama’s girls when the latter welcomed Pope Francis in the United States earlier in the year.
Kenyans on social media felt let down by Ngina’s ‘low standards’ and vented their collective shame at her poor judgement on the significance of the occasion.
Facebook user Tabby Anne commented; “Ngina should have put on something decent. Didn’t you see the Obama girls when they met the pope?”
Patricia Mwaura commented; “Surely first daughter should have wowed. Very disappointed. Look for me I’ll show her what to pick for various functions. Ngina you represent the young ladies be an example.”
Joyious Kalekye Nashipai commented; “Ngina no please. A dress could have been the best!! I bet you have many in your closet unlike me here sufferer who could have even gone an extra mile to borrow one from neighbours at least for that image. U know!”
Some, however, came to the defense of the president’s daughter stating that she was decent enough.
Willroyal Moffat commented; “I think there is nothing wrong with Ngina dress code….she isn’t a Saint to be on dress….above all she has enclosed her nakedness… we are in new Era wish you knew how Pope is…not of such things he prefers being real to who you are. Travel abroad where people go Church half dressed…Ngina has preserved her Africanism she is fully dressed.”
Pope Francis is in Kenya as part of his Africa tour across three countries. On Friday, he will leave for Uganda and later visit Central Africa Republic (CAR).
