Uhuru vows to ‘fix’ Supreme Court judges – VIDEO
President Uhuru Kenyatta has said he will “fix” judges of the Supreme Court who delivered a ruling that nullified his election victory, if the wins the fresh polls.
Speaking at State House, Nairobi on Saturday while addressing Governors, Senators, Members of National Assembly and MCAs who were elected on the Jubilee Party ticket, the president repeated earlier threats that he made to the bench of the Supreme Court following the ruling.
“Tutarudi, na tukishamaliza tutarevist hii mambo yenyu… there is problem, and we must fix it. Going forward we must fix it, we must fix that problem. We must fix that problem. Lazima turekebishe,” President Kenyatta said.
“Maraga thinks he can overturn the will of the people. We shall show you, in 60 days, that the will of the people cannot be overturned,” he added in what appeared to be directed at the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, David Maraga.
FRESH ELECTIONS
President Kenyatta wondered why it is only presidential results that is under dispute while results for all other seats in contention were transmitted through the same mechanism.
Deputy President William Ruto, meanwhile, alleged that the opposition is not ready for elections while at the same time ruling out the possibility of accommodating their opponents in government.
“The Supreme Court cannot determine who rules this country. We will have no grand coalition and the election will be conducted by IEBC. We will not have the opposition playing around with us over the disbandment of IEBC,” he said.
Both leaders rejected calls for the removal of the IEBC and asked the body to immediately call for fresh elections as directed by the Supreme Court.
