Uhuru reaches out to Raila in his acceptance speech

President Uhuru Kenyatta in his acceptance speech on Friday night extended an olive branch to opposition leader Raila Odinga and his supporters stating that together they will grow the nation together.

President Kenyatta thanked Kenyans for re-electing him and the electoral commission for overseeing the elections.

“We are not enemies, we are all citizens of one republic. As in every competition there shall always be winners and there shall be losers but we all belong to one great nation called Kenya and I extend a hand of friendship, corporation and partnership knowing fully well that this country needs all of us pulling together,” said the President.

REMAIN PEACEFUL

In his speech, the President urged Kenyans not to engage in violence stating that all Kenyans ought to reach out to their neighbours regardless of who they voted for so as to move forward together.

The President went on to address the nation outside the national tallying centre urging those in the opposition to share ideas so that “together we can create a stable and prosperous nation for all 45million Kenyans.”

He called upon Kenyans to remain peaceful stating, “We have seen the result of post-election violence and I am certain no Kenyan would want us to go back to that.”

The President urged all supporters of those who won and those who lost to reach out to one another and not be used for short term political gain.
