Two shot dead, 82 bullets seized in shootout


Police shot dead two criminals in Huruma on Tuesday night and recovered four guns and 82 bullets.

One of the guns recovered was reportedly stolen from Muthaiga police station.

Police on patrol spotted the two suspects carrying a suspicious luggage. The suspects reportedly opened fire to the police when they were ordered to stop.

The officers gave pursuit and followed them to their Huruma flats residence.

Cornered, the suspects came out firing. They were killed in the ensuing gunfire exchange.

Police recovered firearms and munitions including two AK 47 assault rifles, two ceska pistols and 9mm ammunition, four magazines for the ceska pistols, one magazine for a Victor pistol, two magazines for the assault rifles and further 81 bullets.

According to Starehe OCPD, Barasa Wabomba, the identity of one of the criminals was well known in Huruma who used the pseudo-name “Mandela”.

His criminal record includes shooting a barber on the leg after being shaved.

Other items recovered in the suspect’s hideout included clothing uniforms for Kariobangi and Pumwani Secondary schools.

Mr. Barasa urged the public to cooperate with the police in the tackling of crime by reporting on any suspicious activities this festive season.
