Two pupils drown in flooded Nairobi River

Two pupils were on Thursday morning swept away by flash floods in Kangemi following the heavy downpour which was experienced across the country.

The two girls from Kanyorosha Primary School in Kangemi, Nairobi County were swept after Nairobi River burst its banks.

The two standard six and seven girls are said to have gone to the river to wipe their shoes after arriving in school.

Kenya Red Cross head of corporate affairs Mr Anthony Mwangi, told Nairobi News that the exact number of fatalities and the extent of damage as a result of the floods is yet to be established.

The body of one of the girls has since been retrieved as the search continues for the other body.

In another incident, one person died and three cars were damaged after a perimeter wall collapsed on them Wednesday evening in Murang’a County after a heavy downpour.
