Nkaissery suspends Garissa security chiefs


Interior Secretary Joseph Nkaiserry has suspended two top government officials as the government launched an investigation into failures that allowed Al-Shabaab militants to attack Garissa University college.

Nkaiserry has also asked Inspector General of Police Joseph Bionett to suspended seven high ranking police officers in Garissa to facilitate the investigation

The investigation is intended to “establish possible criminal culpability  of individual officers or relevant security committees.

Top officials interdicted by Nkaiserry are Njenga Miiri, the Garissa county commissioner, and Ernest Munyi, the regional co-ordinator, north eastern region.

The high ranking police officers suspended are Christopher Muthee – AP county commander Garissa, Musa Yego – county criminal investigations officer Garissa, Charles Wambugu – Kenya Police county commander Garissa and  Benjamin Ong’ombe – OCPD Garissa.

Others are John Cheruiyot Sawe – AP sub county commander, Nicholas Mutuku Kimanzi – head of the Anti-Terrorist Police Unit Garissa and Charles Ayoro – deputy OCS Garissa police station.

The attack at Garissa University college left at least 148 students killed.
