This is why there were blasts in Nairobi’s CBD

Nairobians on Tuesday evening were treated to a rare spectacle of fireworks and a lit Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

The fireworks which produced blasting sounds were for a moment confusing Nairobians until the rainbow colors of the fireworks decorated the sky.

In the streets on Nairobi, some residents questioned why fireworks were being set off 10 days before New Year.

President Uhuru Kenyatta later posted an update of his presiding over the lighting of the conference centre.

“Presided over the historic lighting of the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, ushering in the Christmas festive season. Let us celebrate this lighting of KICC, and then, let us resolve to keep that flame of unity alive in our hearts. Let us rekindle that spirit of unity,” wrote the president on his Facebook page.
