Traffic nightmare as part of Thika Superhighway-Outering Road is closed

Motorists on Wednesday morning were caught in a major traffic snarl-up after part of the busy Thika Superhighway was closed for road construction at Allsopps junction.

Road users were stuck for hours on both Thika Superhighway and Outering Ring road as motorists tried to make their way in and out of GSU headquarters junction.

The service lane at the Garden City roundabout was barricaded on your way to Garden estate and its environs.

As if that was not enough, a truck also overturned at Garden City further contributing to the traffic nightmare.

CHAOTIC TRAFFIC

According to Chief Communication Officer of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (Kura), John Cheboi, the closure is part of the government’s plan to decongest the city.

The Outering Road/Allsopps junction is always chaotic with PSV buses, matatus and boda bodas often blocking part of the road as they pick up passengers while inconveniencing other road users.

Trucks and other for-hire vehicles have also found a new parking spot there. Motorists will have to find other alternatives until the construction of the road is completed.
