Thika Road matatu crew charged with beating city motorist to death


Two matatu conductors employed by Marimba Investment Sacco were on Wednesday charged with  murdering a motorist on Christmas eve in a road rage incident .

The victim, Joseph Kiarie Ng’ethe, was driving when his car collided with a matatu at Kamiti and Tuners junction.

A scuffle ensued and the matatu conductors beat him and left him lying on the road. He was later taken Neema Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

On Wednesday, Ian Mbugua and George Irungu Maina appeared before Lady Justice Jessica Lesiit where they were charged with murdering Mr Kiarie on December 24, 2017.

The two did not take plea and were remanded at Industrial Area Prison until January 24 when they  will be brought to court for the state to appoint lawyers to defend them.

Prosecution told the court that the two suspects had been mentally examined and found to be fit to stand trial.
