Teachers and pupils hold demo to protest accidents

Teachers and pupils of Dr Aggrey primary school in Pumwani blocked traffic along the General Waruingi road to protest at the high number of accidents in the area.

They want the road’s contractor to erect speed bumps on the section of the road that runs in front of the school.

General Waruingi road connects Kariokor market  to Eastleigh and is currently under construction.

On Wednesday, seven-tear old Nelly Mukesi was knocked down by a speeding vehicle on the road and was pronounced dead at Kenyatta National Hospital.

On Thursday morning, another pupil from the neighbouring Pumwani primary school was also knoecked down by a speeding vehicle.

Head teacher Wachira Kagunya said the schools committee and teachers had organized the protest to lobby for the contractor to erect speed bumps on the road.
