#TBT: Kenya’s first ATM withdrawal

Did you know that Kenya’s first ATM withdrawal was on October 2, 1989?

The Automatic Teller Machines were first introduced in Kenya by Standard Charted Bank through the ‘cash in a flash campaign’.

The Moneylink Service was officially launched at the bank’s Moi Avenue branch.

Three ATMS were installed in the city centre for the launch of the service; two at the Moi Avenue branch and one at the Kenyatta Avenue branch.

APOLOGY: An earlier version of this story claimed ATMS were introduced in 1995. We apologise for the error.
