A woman died while her male companion is fighting for his life after police opened fire on them as the were sitting in their car near City Park, Nairobi.
According to the police, the car, which had been parked in a thicket for a long time, aroused their suspicion.
“When officers on patrol approached them and asked them to open the doors, they sped off, and the officers opened fire at them,” Nairobi County Police Commander Joseph ole Tito said, adding that the police have been on high alert following warnings of impending attacks during Ramadhan.
“After the incident, the two were taken to hospital but, unfortunately, the woman succumbed to her injuries. The man is still in hospital,” Mr Tito said.
In another incident, there were demonstrations in Kawangware and Kabete early Sunday morning as matatu operators protested the shooting of a conductor by police early in the morning.
