Supreme Court judges to go on leave next month

Kenya’s Supreme Court judges will take a 46-day annual leave begging August 1. The vacation, which is in line with Article 161 (2) (a) of the Constitution of Kenya, Rule 4 (c) of the Supreme Court Rules 2012, was gazetted earlier in the month by chief justice Dr Willy Mutunga.

The vacation commences on 1st August, 2015 and terminate on 15th September, 2015 both days inclusive.

“A Judge will hear urgent matters if admitted to hearing on application made in accordance with the Rules of the Court. A Judge will be available during the vacation to deal with matters that are urgent or require prompt attention,” said Dr Mutunga in the notice.

During this period, the Supreme Court registry shall only be open to the public from 9am to 12pm on all weekdays other than public holidays.
