Chaos at City Hall as Sonko takes on Kidero

Chaos erupted at City Hall on Tuesday after supporters of Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko tried to force their way into the County Assembly chambers to listen to the flamboyant politician.

The senator also made corruption allegations against Governor Kidero and some of his aides.

Mr Sonko had been invited to address the ward reps during the official opening of the assembly when he arrived accompanied by supporters.

Some had earlier positioned themselves at the entrance of assembly while others came singing praises for him and castigating Dr Kidero, who was not present.

However, when the legislator entered the chambers, the crowd tried to push their way into the assembly but security personnel, some in City County uniforms and others in civilian clothes, tried to stop them.

TENDERS

The Senator left the chambers and went to calm them.

During his two-hour address, Mr Sonko accused the governor of “dishing out” tenders to his friends.

He also tabled documents he claimed showed that the County’s Chief of Staff George Wainaina owns a firm that has been doing business with the county.

The senator also said the county has failed to account for Sh61 million.

“Millions meant for service delivery is ending up in individual’s pockets,” he said. “The same corruption networks that fleeced Mumias Sugar Company are now fleecing our county.”

He also questioned the appointment of Mr Tom Ojienda as the county lawyer saying the advocate also serves as Dr Kidero’s family attorney.

However, we could not obtain the documents he tabled nor establish their authenticity.
