Sonko speaks out on reports of strike by Rescue Team workers

Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has tactfully denied reports that his Rescue Team workers have gone on strike.

Sonko shared photos of the team cleaning up in Nairobi West stating, “Wenye wivu waendelee na propaganda zao.”

The photos he shared however showed workers in predominantly green overalls with only two wearing the red overalls that are commonly worn by the Rescue Team members.

He also shared a Facebook live video of an ongoing clean up exercise in Eastleigh showing a team of workers clad in the signature red overalls.

DEMONSTRATORS

In the video, members of the team were interviewed and they stated that their salaries are up to date.

“Sisi hulipwa daily… hao watu wanaharibia Muhesh jina waache… sisi hulipwa daily na pesa yetu haijawahi lala so muache kuekelea Sonko maongo,” said one member.

A team donning red overalls labeled Sonko Rescue Team had on Tuesday demonstrated outside City Hall to demand their eight months’ salary arrears.

However, the team’s management said the demonstrators were not part of the Sonko Rescue Team and were just maligning the governor’s name.
