Sonko promises Nairobi thugs jobs and protection in exchange for illegal firearms

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has promised jobs to criminals in Kayole if they surrender illegal firearms in their possession.

Sonko made the pledge during a fundraising event in Kayole to help offset the medical bill of businessman Harrison Karanja who was shot by thugs in the area.

Karanja sustained serious gunshots wounds and is recuperating at a city hospital with the bill currently standing at Sh7 million.

“I want to tell those holding firearms illegally that you have seven days to surrender them. You will get jobs and protection,” Sonko said.

A sum of Sh4.7 million was raised at the event which was also attended by Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa.

Over the last few weeks the level of insecurity has increased in the area, with most criminal incidents being linked to the resurgence of outlawed Mungiki sect and the criminal gang Gaza.
