Slow start as Nairobians vote in repeat poll


Voting in the repeat presidential elections kicked off Thursday in Nairobi characterised by a low turnout.

Most parts of the city experienced overnight rains and it was still drizzling in the morning, a possible reason for the slow start.

Voters at Moi Avenue Primary School, the largest polling station in the country with over 14000 registered voters, reports Ibrahim Oruko

Few voters turned up to cast their votes at Embakasi Girls Secondary school, Embakasi South Constituency. The polling centre opened at 6.00 am and voting kicked off at 7.00 am, reports Charles Wasonga.

Voters queue  at Karen C primary school in Langata Constituency. Voting started at 6.09 am and going on smoothly. Presiding officers and security agencies say queue is shorter than usual but are hopeful that turn out could increase in the course of the day, reports Maureen Kakah.

Voting is going on smoothly at Toi primary School polling center but the lines are very thin with the longest having only ten people, reports Collins Omulo.
