Six people killed in freak road accident


Six people have died in a road accident at Chebarus along the Kapsabet-Chemelil road in Nandi County after a 14-seater veered off the road and rolled several times.

At least seven others were injured and rushed to nearby hospitals.

The accident occurred around noon on Saturday. Those who died were four men and two women.They were in a group that had hired the vehicle to transport them to Bomet county for a wedding ceremony.

Nandi County Police Commander Patrick Wambani said initial investigations showed that vehicle’s brakes failed and the driver lost control veering off the road. A woman who was standing by was hit and died on the spot alongside five passengers.

He said those who were critically injured had been rushed to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret and others to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital.
