Shots fired as City Hall squad demolishes structures built on Moi Girls’ fence – PHOTOS

Police on Tuesday fired shots in the air to disperse a hostile crowd that was opposed to the demolition of structures built on the fence of Moi Girls’ Secondary School in Kibera.

The contingent of armed police officers was deployed at the school in the morning to oversee the demolition of the structures by City Hall officials.

The school was closed on Sunday for a week after a student was raped in one of the hostels. Armed police officers have been stationed at the school since then.

The operation to demolish the structures was conducted under tight security that saw the road leading to the area blocked despite resistance by residents.

The angry residents threw stones at the policemen in retaliation as teargas rent the air.

No vehicle is allowed to access the stretch where the semi-permanent structures are being demolished.
