Shock as ‘Vampire beast’ sucks blood, kills 10 goats

By KNA January 16th, 2015 1 min read

Residents of Daraja Mbili area in Kisii town are still in shock after 10 goats were killed by a mysterious animal on Thursday night.

The suspected wild animal killed the livestock by sinking its teeth into their necks and sucking their blood.

The goats belonged to Member of the County Assembly for Town Central Ward Mr Wilfred Monyenye.

Speaking to KNA,  Mr Monyenye said he was informed about the bizarre incident by a farmhand early in the morning, but said the incident is not the first in the area.

Mr Monyenye petitioned Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to hunt down the beast and capture it to prevent more loss and thereafter compensate owners who have been affected.

Kisii county livestock officer Ms Janet Omani visited the scene but could not immediately identify the mysterious animal.

She immediately declared the carcasses unfit for human consumption and ordered for their destruction.

Ms Omani confirmed that another resident had lost 15 goats in the area in a similar manner last year.

However, residents denied existence of wild animals in the area, saying they suspected a wild dog.
