Sh6m debt that led to seizure of CS Wamalwa’s luxury car

The Range Rover Vogue belonging to Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has a debt of over Sh 6.5million with the taxman.

In a document presented before court by the Kenya Revenue Authority showing amounts owed by the 11 motor vehicle owners who sued the taxman, the imported luxury car is listed with sh 6,595,344.83 debt, the highest among the others.

High Court Judge Isaac Lenaola had last Friday stopped KRA from impounding the vehicles but asked the taxman to present a schedule of the amounts of the alleged unpaid tax.

UNPAID TAX

Mr Wamalwa’s vehicle is among the ones presented for inspection for being fraudulently registered and his personal assistant had indicated that the CS is the second owner, had paid the requisite monies while blaming KRA of failing to update it’s records.

The said amount is listed against the vehicle’s initial owner’s name Ms Grace Wairaki.

KRA has insisted that they want the motor owners to consent on the way forward of settling the alleged unpaid tax.

The matter will be mentioned on Thursday to record a consent with regards to settling the alleged debt.

However, the High Court has still extended orders barring KRA from impounding the 12 vehicles.
