Senior civil servants shortlisted for PS position

Senior civil servants and parastatal chiefs are among 110 candidates who have been shortlisted for the Principal Secretary position and will be interviewed by the Public Service Commission from Friday, May 22.

The 110, who were selected from a pool of 727 applicants, boast vast experience in the public and private sectors spanning decades. Most of them have Phds.

Interestingly, a number of former PSs who had expressed interest in the position have been locked out of the final shortlist with only Beatrice Kituyi, a former Labour PS, and Philomena Koech (Livestock) making the cut.

The 110 candidates will be interviewed on Friday May 22, Monday 25 and Tuesday May 26, 2015 at Commission House in Nairobi.

Among the candidates is President Uhuru Kenyatta’s advisor who is also Kenya’s ambassador to UNEP Prof Martin Kimani, Ms Betty Maina, the outgoing chief executive of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers who will retire from the position in June.

The Kenya Tourism Board managing director Mr Muriithi Ndegwa, Kenya Dairy Board CEO Paul Machira Gichohi, former director of civic education and outreach at TJRC Elijah Letangule and William Oduol, Siaya Gubernatorial race candidate, have also been shortlisted.

MADE THE CUT

Former Nairobi Town Clerk Philip Kisia, Dr Kenneth Ombongi, the Principal of Utalii College,Mr Peter Mutie, previously MD of the Kenya Film Commission and immediate former Kenyan ambassador to Germany, Mr Ken Osinde, also made the cut.

Others are former CEO of the Lake Victoria South Water Services Board Michael O. Owino, former Interim Independent Electoral Commission of Kenya commissioner Ken Nyaundi, commissioner of insurance at Insurance Regulatory Commission Sammy M. Makove, CEO Commission for Revenue Allocation George Ooko and former MD of National Water Conservation and Pipeline Corporation Petronilla A. Ogut.

Also in the list are senior official in the Deputy President’s office Abdul Mwasserah, former Kenyan ambassador to Russia Prof Sospeter Machage and the MD  of the Kenya Maritime Authority Nancy Karigithu.

Among the former PSs who applied but was not shortlisted is Mr Seno Nyakenyanya who served as PS for Cooperative Development in the Mwai Kibaki government.

The original list contained a host of Phd holders, mainly former ambassadors, senior lecturers in the universities and consultants, but most did not make the cut.
